Location: Austin, Texas USA || Website: https://univoice.app/
Univoice is the first language-learning platform that teaches languages exclusively through song. It is the perfect learning companion for language students inside or outside of the classroom, as it is as addicting and engaging as it is educational.
“Founders who have gone through an Accelerator program like Newchip can show potential investors and partners that they’ve spent the time to get educated on the demands of running a company,” says founder, Sami Halabi. Through the Newchip Accelerator, Univoice has been able to grow in a few key areas: Culture Building, Corporate Governance, and Fundraising. Univoice recently completed a successful crowdfunding campaign, closed 500k additional funding, and have landed some highly-esteemed advisors. They have 700 monthly active users on their beta, recording deals with over 50 record labels, and are set to launch V1 of the platform in December 2020.
About The Founder: Sami Halabi
Sami Halabi is a lifelong musician and language learner that speaks over six different languages. His biggest turning point came at 16 years old when he was teaching himself German and became disillusioned with the resources he had available to him – there wasn’t a great tool that was engaging. After tediously reading German grammar books, Sami came across a German music playlist and couldn’t stop listening to it. Inadvertently and accidentally, he became proficient in just three short months.
He started a youtube channel teaching German through instructional videos and created a video series using music – German language concepts through Disney songs. This series reached viral status and quickly validated the market for language learning through music.

This also forged a very unique skillset and humility; a foundation for future ventures and helping others succeed. Chris’ time with major ad agencies early in his career, followed by successful entrepreneurial endeavors – starting, owning, and operating over 40 businesses over nearly two decades – provides a very unique ability to complement an extremely wide array of companies, at any stage and nearly any size.
Chris is currently an EIR with 1871 and its affiliated accelerators in Chicago and mentors with Chicago Innovation, Surge in Grand Rapids, MI. and, of course, Newchip. He is involved as a Founding Partner of Kiyote Ventures, a Chicago-based venture fund focusing on seed through Pre-A round stage start-ups in tech, who are post-revenue and require capital to scale. He also holds positions as a Vice President of Entrepreneurial & Growth within Colliers International, Partner in Oath Distribution (Beer/Wine/Liquor) in IL, and an Operating Partner with Orchid Black (a boutique business optimization consultancy). Presently, Chris’ passion to leverage his experience and help young companies excel is second only to spending as much time as possible with his most significant achievement, his family.
